Komodo Island

Komodo Island is one of the few islands at which the Komodo Dragon can be found. The Komodo Dragon is the largest living lizard in the world, with an average length of 6 to 10 feet and an average weight of 150 lbs. Komodo Dragons are carrion eaters - even though they often take a fairly active role in the demise of their prey. The saliva of a Komodo Dragon contains over 50 different strains of bacteria - once bitten the ensuing sepsis kills the victims within a week...
Komdo Dragons are hard to spot - we were very lucky to encounter a fully grown male who was in the process of eating some unlucky fowl. Apart from the Dragon, we also saw a colony of flying foxes swarming out at dusk.
